Deerfield Beach, FL — Oliver Larkin congratulated Mayor-elect Eileen Higgins and Miami voters for electing the first woman mayor in the city’s history and the first Democrat in nearly 30 years.

“South Floridians are demanding an end to ICE’s abuses, lower costs, and an economy that works for everyone,” Larkin said. “Florida is worth fighting for, but Congressman Moskowitz isn’t fighting for us. As a two-time appointee of Governor Ron DeSantis, he was the only Democrat in our congressional delegation to vote for Republicans’ racist, ICE-empowering Laken Riley Act. He was the first Democrat in Congress to join Elon Musk’s DOGE Caucus. He was rated Florida’s Least Effective Democrat while sharing AIPAC and corporate donors with Donald Trump. This political moment requires real leadership, and next August, that’s what Democrats in Florida’s 23rd district will vote for our campaign to provide.”

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis previously appointed Moskowitz as the director of the Florida Department of Emergency Management and to the Broward County Commission. On December 3, 2024, Rep. Moskowitz became the first Democrat nationwide in the U.S. House of Representatives to join Elon Musk’s DOGE Caucus. He is the only Democrat in Florida to vote for Republicans’ Laken Riley Act in January, which permits ICE to detain people with no criminal convictions, who now comprise three-quarters of ICE detainees in the new 2026 fiscal year.

“In Congress, I won’t vote to empower ICE—I’ll vote to abolish it,” Larkin added. “I’ll fight for Medicare for All, a $25 minimum wage, and an end to the U.S. wasting billions of dollars that should be spent on healthcare and housing to fund Israel’s Gaza genocide. It is past time for our elected representatives in Congress to work for the affordable South Florida we all deserve.”
