His parents taught him the values of hard work, integrity, and service. He attended Pine Crest School and later graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire. As a high school student, he made phone calls for Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign and helped lead student climate efforts pushing for fossil fuel divestment. He went on to study English and History at Sewanee: The University of the South in Tennessee, where he also played football. When climate-denying Governor Rick Scott was re-elected in 2014, Oliver decided to act. After college, he was working in a restaurant, earning the federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour when he contacted Bernie Sanders’ New Hampshire team, quit his job, and drove north to volunteer for a long-shot presidential campaign. Oliver showed up every day until he was hired—starting as an unpaid volunteer and eventually leading the Portsmouth field office through Sanders’ upset victory in the New Hampshire primary. He went on to organize in states across the country, including Nevada, Kansas, Utah, New York, and Rhode Island. In 2016, Oliver joined a communications firm in Washington, DC and helped unionize it with the NewsGuild-CWA—setting a new standard for how campaign workers should be treated. His work supported the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Senator Sanders’ Our Revolution, and the grassroots effort to pass Florida’s Amendment 4, which restored voting rights to over one million people. While living in Washington, DC during the COVID-19 pandemic, Oliver joined the Democratic Socialists of America, protested for racial justice following the police murder of George Floyd, and experienced the unrest surrounding the January 6th Capitol insurrection. These moments deepened his belief that democracy and civil rights aren’t guaranteed—they must be protected and practiced. Since coming back home, Oliver has stood alongside families, educators, and LGBTQIA+ youth to protest groups like Moms for Liberty, the Proud Boys, and far-right school board members' hate-fueled attacks. Oliver is an active member of Broward DSA and continues working to build a more livable, inclusive, and just South Florida. We deserve independent leadership that gets results. Oliver led a field office for Bernie Sanders in 2016, started a union at his workplace, and spent time as an activist in South Florida fighting back against luxury developers, toxic landfills, and affronts to LGBTQIA+ communities.Oliver is running a campaign on Medicare for All, abolishing ICE, and an end to the U.S.-funded genocide in Gaza. He rejects money from corporate PACs, AIPAC, and lobbyists.<h2>The Facts About Jared Moskowitz</h2>Voters need to learn that Jared Moskowitz is a corrupt career politician who has spent his time in Congress voting with Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and AIPAC. Fort Lauderdale, FL — Democratic candidate for Florida’s 23rd congressional Oliver Larkin issued the following statements following the resignation of FL-20’s Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick:“Let’s be clear about what this is,” Larkin said. “This is the use of public money meant for Covid response being redirected into a political campaign. It is corruption, and it is exactly why people do not trust Congress.”“There is a leadership vacuum in South Florida,” Larkin continued. “Our districts’ shared communities of Fort Lauderdale, Pompano Beach, Deerfield Beach, Oakland Park, and Margate deserve accountable leadership that stands up for the values of our party and is free from the stain of corruption. When our current leaders are running as Republican-lite or facing federal charges, we need elected officials who take a strong anti-corruption stance.”“If we are serious about fighting corruption, that has to start at home,” Larkin said. “We cannot spend every election cycle talking about Republican corruption while excusing it when it happens inside the Democratic Party. Voters see that hypocrisy, and they’re done with it.”“There is a systemic corruption problem in Washington, from stock trading to corporate PAC money to illegal campaign financing schemes,” Larkin said. “Our campaign rejects them all—we are not interested in participating in that system. We are here to dismantle it.”Larkin urged Gov. DeSantis to immediately schedule a special election, noting that DeSantis delayed calling a special election for a record nine months following the passing of the late Rep. Deerfield Beach, FL – A new poll of the FL-23 Democratic primary by the Center for Strategic Politics shows Oliver Larkin taking a commanding lead over Jared Moskowitz after voters heard balanced information about both candidates.In an initial head-to-head, Moskowitz leads Larkin 45%-11%, with 44% undecided—a weak position for an incumbent below 50% support.After positive information is presented for both candidates, Larkin leapfrogs Moskowitz 49%-36%, with just 15% undecided. The strike, the first in Florida connected to the national mobilization, comes as Starbucks Corporation continues to refuse to negotiate a fair contract with unionized employees.
