His parents taught him the values of hard work, integrity, and service. He attended Pine Crest School and later graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire.<strong><br></strong></p><p>As a high school student, he made phone calls for Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign and helped lead student climate efforts pushing for fossil fuel divestment. He went on to study English and History at Sewanee: The University of the South in Tennessee, where he also played football. When climate-denying Governor Rick Scott was re-elected in 2014, Oliver decided to act. After college, he was working in a restaurant, earning the federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour when he contacted Bernie Sanders’ New Hampshire team, quit his job, and drove north to volunteer for a long-shot presidential campaign.<br><br>Oliver showed up every day until he was hired—starting as an unpaid volunteer and eventually leading the Portsmouth field office through Sanders’ upset victory in the New Hampshire primary. He went on to organize in states across the country, including Nevada, Kansas, Utah, New York, and Rhode Island.<br><br>In 2016, Oliver joined a communications firm in Washington, DC and helped unionize it with the NewsGuild-CWA—setting a new standard for how campaign workers should be treated. His work supported the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Senator Sanders’ Our Revolution, and the grassroots effort to pass Florida’s Amendment 4, which restored voting rights to over one million people.<br><strong><br></strong>While living in Washington, DC during the COVID-19 pandemic, Oliver joined the Democratic Socialists of America, protested for racial justice following the police murder of George Floyd, and experienced the unrest surrounding the January 6th Capitol insurrection. These moments deepened his belief that democracy and civil rights aren’t guaranteed—they must be protected and practiced. Like many in South Florida, they’ve navigated skyrocketing housing costs between rentals in Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, and Deerfield Beach.<br><br>Since coming back home, Oliver has stood alongside families, educators, and LGBTQIA+ youth to protest groups like Moms for Liberty, the Proud Boys, and far-right school board members' hate-fueled attacks. Oliver is an active member of Broward DSA and continues working to build a more livable, inclusive, and just South Florida.<br><br><strong>We deserve independent leadership that gets results. Jared Moskowitz for betraying Democrats by voting with Republicans to after he became one of just 13 House Democrats to join Republicans in passing legislation that restricts voter access at the ballot box while also making it easier for politicians in Congress to use insider information to trade stocks and make a profit while continuing to have taxpayers fund their salaries.&nbsp;</p><p>FL-25 Congressional Candidate Oliver Larkin Statement:&nbsp;</p><p>“Jared Moskowitz once again caved to Republicans by voting for their bill to make it harder for Floridians to vote and easier for multi-millionaires like him in Congress to use insider information to get richer from stock trades, all while taxpayers continue to fund his salary.&nbsp;</p><p>“When Republicans need Democratic cover, Rep. Moskowitz is there. He voted for the extreme, right-wing Laken Riley Act, to give Trump’s ICE agents even more detention powers, instead of protecting the rule of law and the rights of innocent Floridians. Rep. Moskowitz has repeatedly betrayed Democrats and sided with Trump and MAGA Republicans in Congress. Now, he is one of only 13 Democrats willing to help pass a bill that weakens voting rights while pretending to clean up corruption.”</p><p>The Campaign Legal Center, one of the nation’s leading government ethics organizations, opposed the legislation, warning that it fails to meaningfully prohibit members of Congress from trading individual stocks, while also pushing through extreme&nbsp; voter ID provisions that could make it harder for eligible Floridians to vote. The organization argued the bill preserves major loopholes instead of delivering the ethics reform Americans have demanded.</p><p>For Moskowitz, the vote carries another layer of hypocrisy. Financial disclosures show he has actively traded individual stocks while serving in Congress. Yet instead of supporting a true ban on congressional stock trading, Moskowitz voted for legislation that ethics advocates say leaves the practice largely intact.</p><p>Larkin called the GOP bill a false choice between protecting democracy and reforming Congress:</p><p>“Politicians in Congress must be banned from trading individual stocks. Floridians deserve new leaders in Congress&nbsp; who work for the people, not their personal bank account. Let’s be clear, is not a real stock trading ban. This is just smoke and mirrors legislation filled with loopholes that give corrupt politicians a free pass and push Trump’s discriminatory voter ID provisions that make it harder for eligible Floridians&nbsp; to vote. South Florida families deserve better from their representative in Congress. We need&nbsp; a real ethics bill and action to actually protect voting rights. Jared Moskowitz chose neither.”</p><p>Voting rights advocates have warned that the legislation would disproportionately burden communities of color and other eligible voters, including married women who have changed their names, military families, tribal communities, naturalized citizens, and students, by creating new documentation barriers to voting.</p><p>###</p><p><br><br></p>

<p><strong>Fort Lauderdale, FL</strong> — Democratic candidate for Florida’s 23rd congressional Oliver Larkin issued the following statements following the resignation of FL-20’s Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick:</p><p><strong>“Let’s be clear about what this is,”</strong> Larkin said. <strong>“This is the use of public money meant for Covid response being redirected into a political campaign. It is corruption, and it is exactly why people do not trust Congress.”</strong></p><p><strong>“There is a leadership vacuum in South Florida,”</strong> Larkin continued. <strong>“Our districts’ shared communities of Fort Lauderdale, Pompano Beach, Deerfield Beach, Oakland Park, and Margate deserve accountable leadership that stands up for the values of our party and is free from the stain of corruption. When our current leaders are running as Republican-lite or facing federal charges, we need elected officials who take a strong anti-corruption stance.”</strong></p><p><strong>“If we are serious about fighting corruption, that has to start at home,”</strong> Larkin said. <strong>“We cannot spend every election cycle talking about Republican corruption while excusing it when it happens inside the Democratic Party. Voters see that hypocrisy, and they’re done with it.”</strong></p><p><strong>“There is a systemic corruption problem in Washington, from stock trading to corporate PAC money to illegal campaign financing schemes,”</strong> Larkin said. <strong>“Our campaign rejects them all—we are not interested in participating in that system. DeSantis to immediately schedule a special election, noting that DeSantis delayed calling a special election for a record nine months following the passing of the late Rep.
