His parents taught him the values of hard work, integrity, and service. He attended Pine Crest School and later graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire. As a high school student, he made phone calls for Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign and helped lead student climate efforts pushing for fossil fuel divestment. He went on to study English and History at Sewanee: The University of the South in Tennessee, where he also played football. When climate-denying Governor Rick Scott was re-elected in 2014, Oliver decided to act. After college, he was working in a restaurant, earning the federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour when he contacted Bernie Sanders’ New Hampshire team, quit his job, and drove north to volunteer for a long-shot presidential campaign. Oliver showed up every day until he was hired—starting as an unpaid volunteer and eventually leading the Portsmouth field office through Sanders’ upset victory in the New Hampshire primary. He went on to organize in states across the country, including Nevada, Kansas, Utah, New York, and Rhode Island. In 2016, Oliver joined a communications firm in Washington, DC and helped unionize it with the NewsGuild-CWA—setting a new standard for how campaign workers should be treated. His work supported the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Senator Sanders’ Our Revolution, and the grassroots effort to pass Florida’s Amendment 4, which restored voting rights to over one million people. While living in Washington, DC during the COVID-19 pandemic, Oliver joined the Democratic Socialists of America, protested for racial justice following the police murder of George Floyd, and experienced the unrest surrounding the January 6th Capitol insurrection. These moments deepened his belief that democracy and civil rights aren’t guaranteed—they must be protected and practiced. Since coming back home, Oliver has stood alongside families, educators, and LGBTQIA+ youth to protest groups like Moms for Liberty, the Proud Boys, and far-right school board members' hate-fueled attacks. Oliver is an active member of Broward DSA and continues working to build a more livable, inclusive, and just South Florida. We deserve independent leadership that gets results. It is corruption, and it is exactly why people do not trust Congress.”“There is a leadership vacuum in South Florida,” Larkin continued. “Our districts’ shared communities of Fort Lauderdale, Pompano Beach, Deerfield Beach, Oakland Park, and Margate deserve accountable leadership that stands up for the values of our party and is free from the stain of corruption. <h3>In Congress, Oliver will champion bold constitutional reforms to strengthen democracy and ensure every voice counts. </h3><h4>Electoral College</h4>Millennials, Gen Z, and every generation today lives with the consequences of two presidents—George W. Bush and Donald Trump—elected despite losing the popular vote. These outcomes have had devastating consequences: endless wars, economic collapse, a deadly pandemic response, and massive transfers of wealth to the ultra-rich. For younger generations, a lower standard of living than our parents is now the norm—not the exception. It’s time to move beyond the outdated compromises of the slave-state era and build a democracy that reflects the will of the people.<h4>Constitutional Reforms</h4>In 2024, over 1.5 million Floridians voted for Amendment 4 to guarantee the right to abortion—but it failed due to Florida’s 60% supermajority requirement. The same happened with Amendment 3 to legalize recreational marijuana. These anti-democratic thresholds, gerrymandered state legislatures, and court rulings like Shelby County v. Holder have blocked progress for decades. Florida is living proof of what happens when minority rule overrides majority will. Larkin Slams Trump’s Venezuela Killings, Moskowitz’s Silence, and TPS Rollback

<h3>Ending Forever Wars</h3>Oliver supports repealing the 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF), which has enabled endless U.S. military involvement around the world without proper congressional oversight. Then-Rep. Barbara Lee cast the lone vote against it—and she was right. For more than two decades, the U.S. has spent trillions of dollars waging war abroad while stripping civil liberties at home, from Bush-era surveillance to Trump’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids and secret police tactics under the Department of Homeland Security. Even after the withdrawal from Afghanistan, the defense budget continues to grow. Oliver believes it’s time to end the president’s unchecked war powers and redirect resources toward rebuilding here at home.<h3>Iran</h3>The Trump administration’s attacks on Iran stand in violation of domestic and international law, will destabilize West Asia, will disrupt the global economy and increase the cost of living for Americans, will push Iran toward a nuclear weapon, and, through death and displacement, will imperil the lives of millions of people who call the region home.In Congress Oliver would support:<ul><li>Passage of the Iran War Powers Resolution in the House (H.Con.Res.38) and the Senate (S.J.Res.59)</li><li>Cessation of hostilities against Iran</li><li>Withdrawal of American military assets from the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman</li><li>End to sanctions on Iran</li><li>Return to diplomacy on the part of the United States</li></ul><h3>Israel-Palestine</h3>Oliver agrees with Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and the United Nations that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, including the use of starvation tactics. He opposes continued U.S. military support for authoritarian or warmongering regimes.<h3>Venezuela</h3>Oliver condemns the Trump administration's extrajudicial murders of Venezuelan citizens in September and October 2025. The administration has escalated its use of military force in violation of international law and cut off diplomatic ties. Its October 3, 2025 strike coincided with the Supreme Court ruling the Department of Homeland Security could terminate Temporary Protected Status for 300,000 Venezuelans with established U.S. residency. Oliver wrote about Trump and the Supreme Court's effort to end Venezuela TPS in May 2025 in the <a href="https://www.sun-sentinel.com/2025/05/27/the-end-of-venezuelans-protected-immigration-status-escalates-vicious-u-s-policy-opinion/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">South Florida Sun Sentinel</a>. The administration has justified its illegal domestic searches and seizures, violations of our constitutional rights, and abuses at the hands of masked ICE officers as a necessary cost of national security, a clear step toward authoritarianism. Oliver will support legislation to establish pathways to citizenship for immigrants with TPS status and recent arrivals. He strongly opposes ICE's domestic campaign of detention and deportation, illegal regime change efforts, as well as the imposition of sanctions regimes that create needless suffering for innocent people and spur the very migration crises that politicians cynically exploit for electoral gain. Congress must assert its war powers over the executive branch to deescalate military tensions with Venezuela, reestablish diplomatic ties, and improve the economic conditions driving the desperation that fuels human trafficking, drug smuggling, and political destabilization that authoritarians use to secure power.<h3>Ukraine-Russia &amp; NATO</h3>Oliver condemns Russia’s illegal war of aggression in Ukraine and supports prioritizing diplomacy as our primary tool of engagement with Russia's allies. Russia has occupied Ukrainian territory since 2014 and bears responsibility for the conflict and its massive human cost.Congress and the State Department must subject any U.S. military aid coordinated with the European Union and NATO to rigorous oversight. The United States must also support the International Criminal Court and International Court of Justice's effort to hold leaders and states accountable for war crimes, including removing U.S. sanctions on ICC investigators and prosecutors.Oliver believes it is in the United States' interest to extend the New START treaty with Russia and pursue nuclear non-proliferation, including a reduction in the United States' nuclear arsenal as part of a 10 percent overall reduction in non-pay, non-benefit U.S. military spending. As a condition of New START's extension, Oliver believes in-person inspections, paused during the Covid-19 pandemic, should resume. Oliver expresses wariness about sliding into forever wars but believes in the need for Ukraine's sovereignty. <h3>Latin America &amp; Caribbean</h3>Oliver believes the U.S. must deepen its economic, cultural, and governmental partnerships across Latin America and the Caribbean. That starts with:<ul><li>Ending the embargo on Cuba</li><li>Supporting labor and environmental protections in trade agreements</li><li>Respecting self-determination for Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Haiti</li><li>Ending U.S.-backed coups, regime change efforts, and support for authoritarian governments</li></ul>He believes the U.S. has a special responsibility to support economic and democratic development in countries whose sovereignty we’ve historically violated. That includes pushing for France, the U.K., and other former colonial powers to contribute to post-colonial reparative support, particularly for Haiti—the first Black republic in the Americas, still punished for seizing its liberty over 200 years ago.
