Deerfield Beach, FL — Democratic congressional candidate Oliver Larkin (FL-23) condemned President Donald Trump’s threat to denaturalize U.S. citizens following the ambush on the National Guard. He issued the statement below:

“Donald Trump is already using this week’s violent attack near the White House to justify the most extreme parts of a mass detention and deportation agenda that 220 federal judges have ruled unlawful,” Larkin said. “As this lawless administration manufactures an immigration crisis with termination of TPS for Haitians, Venezuelans, and other Florida residents, District 23 needs a representative who stands up for due process and the Constitution—not one who votes for Trump and far-right Republicans’ immigration laws to empower ICE as Jared Moskowitz has.”

Trump’s threat to deport “anyone who is not a net asset to the United States, or is incapable of loving our Country” and “denaturalize migrants who undermine domestic tranquility” to the end of “a major reduction in illegal and disruptive populations” is the latest escalation of Trump’s fascist government whose targets now include U.S. citizens. 

Oliver Larkin believes in the freedom of movement and the right to seek a better life. He will defend the 14th Amendment of the Constitution, and in Congress will fight for policies including:

• A clear pathway to citizenship for Dreamers and those with DACA

• Expanding and protecting Temporary Protected Status (TPS)

• Legal status for parents previously covered under DAPA

• Ending far-right attempts to criminalize immigration and restrict legal pathways

“This violence is not a story about immigration. It is a story about the consequences of America’s addiction to endless war,” Larkin added. “In moments such as these, the choice before us becomes clearer: We can either allow Trump’s fear-based narrative to take hold or we can confront the actual systems that produced this moment –– and refuse to scapegoat the very communities Trump has sought to blame all along.”
