FL-25 Candidate Oliver Larkin Blasts Incumbent Jared Moskowitz for Joining GOP Voter Suppression Measure and Weak Ethics Bill

Fort Lauderdale, FL — Today, FL-25 congressional candidate Oliver Larkin  called out incumbent Rep. Jared Moskowitz for betraying Democrats by voting with Republicans to after he became one of just 13 House Democrats to join Republicans in passing legislation that restricts voter access at the ballot box while also making it easier for politicians in Congress to use insider information to trade stocks and make a profit while continuing to have taxpayers fund their salaries. 

FL-25 Congressional Candidate Oliver Larkin Statement: 

“Jared Moskowitz once again caved to Republicans by voting for their bill to make it harder for Floridians to vote and easier for multi-millionaires like him in Congress to use insider information to get richer from stock trades, all while taxpayers continue to fund his salary. 

“When Republicans need Democratic cover, Rep. Moskowitz is there. He voted for the extreme, right-wing Laken Riley Act, to give Trump’s ICE agents even more detention powers, instead of protecting the rule of law and the rights of innocent Floridians. Rep. Moskowitz has repeatedly betrayed Democrats and sided with Trump and MAGA Republicans in Congress. Now, he is one of only 13 Democrats willing to help pass a bill that weakens voting rights while pretending to clean up corruption.”

The Campaign Legal Center, one of the nation’s leading government ethics organizations, opposed the legislation, warning that it fails to meaningfully prohibit members of Congress from trading individual stocks, while also pushing through extreme  voter ID provisions that could make it harder for eligible Floridians to vote. The organization argued the bill preserves major loopholes instead of delivering the ethics reform Americans have demanded.

For Moskowitz, the vote carries another layer of hypocrisy. Financial disclosures show he has actively traded individual stocks while serving in Congress. Yet instead of supporting a true ban on congressional stock trading, Moskowitz voted for legislation that ethics advocates say leaves the practice largely intact.

Larkin called the GOP bill a false choice between protecting democracy and reforming Congress:

“Politicians in Congress must be banned from trading individual stocks. Floridians deserve new leaders in Congress  who work for the people, not their personal bank account. Let’s be clear, is not a real stock trading ban. This is just smoke and mirrors legislation filled with loopholes that give corrupt politicians a free pass and push Trump’s discriminatory voter ID provisions that make it harder for eligible Floridians  to vote. South Florida families deserve better from their representative in Congress. We need  a real ethics bill and action to actually protect voting rights. Jared Moskowitz chose neither.”

Voting rights advocates have warned that the legislation would disproportionately burden communities of color and other eligible voters, including married women who have changed their names, military families, tribal communities, naturalized citizens, and students, by creating new documentation barriers to voting.
