Larkin Will Run in Florida’s 25th District if DeSantis Map Holds, Touting Growing Coalition of 25 Endorsements

Fort Lauderdale, FL — Democratic candidate Oliver Larkin announced his Congressional campaign’s intent to run in Florida’s newly redrawn 25th Congressional District if new Florida maps hold, entering the race with a growing coalition of endorsements from progressive organizations, labor advocates, grassroots activists, and community leaders across Florida and the country, including new endorsements announced from the Democratic Progressive Caucus of Florida and No One Left Behind.

“Republicans have violated Florida’s Constitution with these illegal, gerrymandered maps. While our campaign supports the ongoing legal challenges to maintain the district where we have run for the past 10 months, we will run in the new 25th district if the new maps hold,” Larkin said. “This is the district where I grew up, where I live, and where the majority of the previous FL-23 residents reside. South Floridians deserve a voice for the working class in Congress.”

Larkin, a former Bernie Sanders campaign staffer and union organizer, is running on a platform centered on Medicare for All, a $25 federal minimum wage, labor rights, major democracy reforms, affordable housing, and opposition to corporate PAC influence in politics.

The relaunch follows Republicans’ latest congressional redistricting overhaul in South Florida, which reshaped district lines across Broward, Palm Beach, and Miami-Dade counties.

The new FL-25 voted for Joe Biden by roughly five points in 2020 and is expected to be one of the most competitive congressional races in Florida in 2026.

“South Floridians are demanding leaders who will actually fight for working people,” Larkin said. “People are tired of corporate Democrats, tired of politicians who accommodate Trump and Republicans, and tired of watching billionaires and special interests control our political system while ordinary people struggle to afford rent, groceries, insurance, and healthcare.”

Larkin enters the race backed by 25 endorsements, including the national Democratic Socialists of America, Progressive Democrats of America, Progressive Change Campaign Committee, and Peace Action.

Recent polling of FL-25 shows Larkin leading both Republican contenders in the general election, with Larkin within the Democratic primary election margin of error once voters hear balanced information about the candidates.

“Voters want conviction. They want someone who is actually willing to stand up to corporate power, endless war, and the cost of living crisis,” Larkin added. “That’s why this campaign continues building momentum.”

The campaign also pointed to growing shifts among Democratic voters on foreign policy. Recent polling found 86% of Democratic primary voters and 68% of likely general election voters in FL-25 support conditioning, reducing, or ending military aid to Israel, reflecting broader voter opposition to endless war and blank-check military spending abroad.

“People want taxpayer dollars invested in South Florida communities, not endless foreign wars while families here are getting crushed by the affordability crisis,” Larkin said.
