Larkin Condemns ICE Murder of U.S. Citizen in Minneapolis

Fort Lauderdale, FL – Oliver Larkin, Democrat for Florida’s 23rd congressional district, condemned the murder of a U.S. citizen by Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Minneapolis, Minnesota today, calling for the abolition of ICE and prosecution for its crimes.

“Donald Trump and his fascist administration are using ICE as a secret police force to ethnically cleanse the United States,” Larkin said. “Now ICE is murdering U.S. citizens in American cities. Congress gave ICE this power, and the American people must take it back—by abolishing ICE and prosecuting everyone responsible for its campaign of murder and domestic terrorism.”

Larkin is primarying incumbent Rep. Jared Moskowitz, the only Florida Democrat to vote for Republicans’ Laken Riley Act in January 2025. The law signed by Trump gave ICE the power to detain people with no criminal convictions, who now comprise approximately three-quarters of ICE detainees in FY2026—ninety percent of whom are held in private, for-profit prisons.

Moskowitz wrote the letter of recommendation to the board of trustees for GEO Group private prison executive Adam Hasner to become president of Florida Atlantic University in February 2025, helping Hasner make FAU the first university in the nation to enter a 287(g) agreement with ICE. Moskowitz also signed the congressional letter expressing gratitude for ICE in June 2025. A two-time appointee of Governor Ron DeSantis, he has avoided speaking out against the Alligator Alcatraz detention center and the death of Marie Ange Blaise, an ICE detainee who passed in the 23rd district’s GEO Group-operated Broward Transitional Center in April 2025.

Larkin added, “Rep. Moskowitz voted to give Donald Trump the power to sic ICE on the American people and violate our constitutional rights. We must replace him. Our campaign stands with immigration justice advocates, faith leaders, and our South Florida community to demand justice and demand accountability. Jared Moskowitz’s poor judgment and failure of leadership to protect the American people from this threat are disqualifying for the 23rd district’s Democratic member of Congress.”
