Deerfield Beach, FL — Democratic challenger Oliver Larkin’s campaign called on Rep. Jared Moskowitz to return his corporate PAC donations and divest his stock portfolio from Big Pharma, for-profit hospitals, medical technology, and private health insurance following Moskowitz cosponsoring Rep. Pramila Jayapal’s H.R. 3069, the Medicare for All Act, seven and a half months after its introduction.
“Winning the fight for Medicare for All will take leaders, not followers,” said Zack Bofshever, campaign manager for Oliver for Congress. “Three and a half years and two elections after Rep. Moskowitz assured District 23 residents he supports Medicare for All, it shouldn’t have to take a primary challenge for him to belatedly cosponsor this legislation after years of broken promises.”
Larkin called on Moskowitz to join him as a signatory of National Nurses United’s Patients Over Profits pledge and return the tens of thousands of dollars in donations Moskowitz’s campaign has received from for-profit private health insurance, hospital corporations, Big Pharma, medical technology, and Big Tobacco.
As a member of Congress, Moskowitz has accepted corporate PAC donations from Centene, Cencora, CVS Health, Elevance Health, HCA Healthcare, Humana, Altria (formerly Philip Morris), Molina Healthcare, Pfizer, and UnitedHealth Group, and traded stocks for AbbVie, Abbott Laboratories, Amgen, Chubb Limited, The Cigna Group, Elevance Health, HCA Healthcare, Johnson & Johnson, Eli Lilly and Company, Medtronic PLC, Merck & Co., Pfizer, Steris, Stryker Corporation, UnitedHealth Group, and West Pharmaceuticals.
“Members of Congress should not be personally profiting from our broken and corrupt healthcare industry,” Larkin added. “The United States is the wealthiest nation not to guarantee healthcare as a right, while we pay twice as much per capita as other nations. The Medicare for All Act is not a messaging document—it is a commitment to work and fight to guarantee every Americans’ right to healthcare under an expanded and improved Medicare for All system, and to take on the corrupt corporate interests standing in the way.”
