Human Rights Advocate Cameron Kasky Endorses Oliver Larkin for Congress

Deerfield Beach, FL – Cameron Kasky, the 25-year-old human rights advocate formerly of Parkland, Florida, endorsed Oliver Larkin for Congress in the 23rd district today.

“There are many examples of how Oliver Larkin’s plans present a clearer path through this dark time in American history than what Rep. Moskowitz has offered, but at this moment we can keep it simple: pro-war politicians must be overcome in this midterm cycle, and principled progressives are needed more than ever,” Kasky wrote in a statement.

Kasky, most recently a Democratic candidate for New York’s 12th congressional district, is an anti-apartheid advocate who visited the Israeli-occupied West Bank last December. He is a survivor of the 2018 Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida in the 23rd district. Kasky co-founded the gun violence prevention organization March for Our Lives and was a lead organizer of the 2018 March for Our Lives in Washington, DC.

“Cameron’s support fills me with gratitude and humility for the impact he has made for our state and country, with a platform that no MSD student ever asked for,” Larkin said. “I will never forget where I was on February 14, 2018, amidst a union organizing campaign in my workplace when I saw our Broward County community on national television. Cameron and his classmates gave me inspiration amidst despair to continue our shared pursuit of justice.”

“Losing my friend Joaquin Oliver in the MSD shooting put me on a path to confront violence as a structural issue,” said Zack Bofshever, Larkin’s campaign manager and a 2017 MSD graduate. “Like Cameron, Oliver understands that the corrupt corporate influence in campaign finance, gun violence, and state violence are interconnected. We are proud to have Cameron’s support.”

Larkin added, “Our campaign is taking on the entrenched corporate interests that perpetuate violence in the United States and warmonger abroad. The American people have had enough of endless war at the expense of our healthcare, housing, and everyday cost of living, and we are ready for change. We will be uncompromising in standing up for the dignity of all human life and building an electoral coalition to deliver this change at the ballot box on August 18th.”
