Florida Incumbent Jared Moskowitz Falls Out of Step With a Changing Democratic Party

Fort Lauderdale, FL — Today, as the majority House Democrats voted Wednesday to halt another $3.3 billion in military aid to Israel. Rep. Jared Moskowitz (FL-25) sided with pro-war Republicans and conservative lawmakers by voting against the effort, isolating himself on the opposite side of more than 100 members of his own party.

The amendment, offered by Rep. Thomas Massie, failed 104-313. But 103 Democrats, including the chamber's second-ranking Democrat Katherine Clark, broke from leadership to say no more blank checks for Netanyahu's war. The vote reflects one of the largest Democratic breaks with unconditional military aid to Israel since the war began, leaving Moskowitz increasingly out of step with calls by Democratic voters to stop spending tax dollars on war. 

Congressman Jim McGovern and 26 other House Democrats said in a joint statement they could not justify sending another $3.3 billion for Israeli military operations that have caused mass civilian death in Gaza and Lebanon.

"People are watching the Democratic Party change in real time because they're tired of endless war and politicians who keep writing blank checks while working families struggle to survive. Jared Moskowitz had a chance to stand with the growing majority of Democrats demanding a different path, and he refused. Every dollar we spend fueling another war is a dollar we're not spending on healthcare, housing, childcare, or lowering the cost of living here at home." 

Moskowitz is one of the top recipients in Congress of campaign funding from AIPAC, the pro-war and pro-Israel group that spent over $100 million to try to influence 2024 elections in the U.S. His progressive opponent, Oliver Larkin ,has never taken a dime from corporate PACs,AIPAC, or any other special interest.

"This vote says everything about Jared Moskowitz's priorities. When Congress is deciding between another $3.3 billion for war or investing in healthcare, affordable housing, childcare, and lowering costs here at home, he keeps making the same choice. I won't."
