After DSA Sweeps Primaries in New York City, Oliver Larkin to Host Virtual Rally Headlined by  Hasan Piker for End-of-Quarter Fundraising Push to Win FL-25

Tonight’s virtual rally brings NY-7 nominee Claire Valdez, AFA President Sara Nelson, Saikat Chakrabarti, and dozens of labor and movement leaders behind the first DSA-endorsed federal candidate of the cycle, ahead of the August 18 primary against Rep. Jared Moskowitz.

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL — One week after Democratic Socialists swept congressional primaries across New York City, the national progressive movement turns to South Florida. Tonight at 8 p.m. ET, Oliver Larkin will headline a virtual rally with Hasan Piker and a national roster of labor leaders, organizers, and progressive figures, capping his campaign’s final fundraising drive of the FEC quarter before Florida’s August 18 Democratic primary. Larkin, the first candidate the national DSA endorsed for federal office this cycle, is challenging Rep. Jared Moskowitz in the newly redrawn 25th District.

The rally follows DSA-backed candidates sweeping a slate of primaries in New York City last Tuesday, including unseating sitting members of Congress, and recent progressive wins in California, New Jersey, Georgia, and Pennsylvania. Larkin is the first candidate the national DSA endorsed for federal office this cycle.

A new poll shows Larkin gaining 18 points once FL-25 voters hear about him, the largest movement of any candidate in the primary and the only one whose support grows with more information. The same poll has him leading both likely Republican opponents in November by 9 to 12 points.

Tonight’s rally brings together elected officials, labor leaders, organizers, and digital creators, including:

  • Hasan Piker — Progressive Twitch streamer and political commentator

  • Claire Valdez — Democratic nominee for New York’s 7th Congressional District and New York State Assemblymember

  • Sara Nelson — President, Association of Flight Attendants-CWA

  • Saikat Chakrabarti — Co-founder of Justice Democrats and former congressional candidate

  • Phil Agnew — Co-founder of Dream Defenders and former senior adviser to Sen. Bernie Sanders’ 2020 campaign

  • Nailah Summers-Polite — Co-Executive Director, Dream Defenders

  • Adam Green — Co-founder, Progressive Change Campaign Committee

  • Saru Jayaraman — President, One Fair Wage

  • Dr. Sadaf Jaffer — Former Mayor of Montgomery Township, New Jersey

  • Nate Blouin — Utah State Senator and former congressional candidate

  • Qasim Rashid — Human rights attorney and author

  • Steven Donziger — Human rights and climate justice advocate

  • William “Popeye” Osceola — Indigenous rights advocate

  • Donna Nevel — Community organizer

  • Tomasz — Organizer, Starbucks Workers United

  • Austin Show — Content creator and streamer

  • Jack Cocchiarella — Progressive content creator

  • Mike from PA — Progressive content creator

  • Francesca Fiorentini — Comedian and journalist

  • Maria F. — Co-lead, Miami DSA

  • Francesca M. — National DSA Steering Committee

Larkin also recently picked up major endorsements from state Rep. Angie Nixon and Phillip Agnew, a former senior adviser to Sen. Bernie Sanders’ 2020 presidential campaign.

Following this announcement, Oliver Larkin released the following statement:

“I’m proud to have Hasan Piker, Claire Valdez, and so many important progressive leaders rally behind this campaign in its final weeks. I'm running because people in this district are doing everything right and still can't cover rent, groceries, and healthcare in the same month. I'll fight for the things that would actually change that: Medicare for All, a $25 minimum wage, and the right to organize a union without getting crushed for it. I'll vote to end unconditional military aid to Israel and invest those tax dollars here in South Florida.”

More About Oliver Larkin

Oliver is a Fort Lauderdale native and a decade-long progressive organizer, fighting for Medicare for All, a $25 minimum wage, the Green New Deal, universal childcare, free public college, paid family and medical leave, abolishing ICE, and an end to the US-funded genocide in Gaza.
