Oliver Larkin Announces Bid for U.S. Congress in Florida’s 23rd District

Progressive Organizer and South Florida Native Challenges Status Quo with Bold Vision for the Future

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 1, 2025

Deerfield Beach, Florida – Oliver Larkin, a progressive organizer, campaign strategist, and lifelong South Floridian, has announced his candidacy for the U.S. House of Representatives in Florida’s 23rd Congressional District. Born on the Fourth of July to an Army family and raised in Fort Lauderdale, Larkin is launching a people-powered campaign to bring effective, principled leadership back to Congress.

“Our district deserves a representative who shows up – for constituents, for town halls, and for the values we hold dear,” said Larkin. “We can’t afford to settle for silence or self-interest. It’s time for leadership rooted in public service, not personal gain.”

Larkin brings more than a decade of political and community organizing experience to his campaign. He has fought to stop toxic landfill expansion in Broward County, protect public land from private developers, and defend LGBTQIA+ rights across South Florida. Nationally, Larkin has helped elect Democratic leaders and push for change from the local to federal level.

Oliver Larkin’s campaign will prioritize:

  • Medicare for All to guarantee healthcare as a human right

  • A Green New Deal to combat climate change and protect South Florida’s future

  • Economic Justice to close the wealth gap and deliver a $25 living wage

  • Democracy Reform to get money out of politics and strengthen voting rights

  • Defend the LGBTQ+ and immigrant communities from far-right attacks

“After a lifetime of Republican rule and status quo politics, South Floridians have never needed a progressive agenda more. Ours will be a people-powered campaign, without a dime of money from corporate PACs. It’s time to reclaim our independence from the corrupting influences that hold sway over our democracy," said Larkin.

Larkin is running against an incumbent criticized for joining Elon Musk’s DOGE Caucus, rated by the University of Virginia and Vanderbilt University’s nonpartisan Center for Effective Lawmaking as Florida’s Least Effective Democrat in Congress. Larkin’s grassroots campaign will emphasize direct voter engagement, community events, and transparent leadership.
