Immigration
Supporting Immigrant Communities
Oliver’s values—shaped by his Catholic upbringing and belief in human dignity—are simple: welcome the stranger, protect the vulnerable, and fight for the promise inscribed on the Statue of Liberty. In Congress, he will always stand with immigrant communities and uphold those ideals.
Oliver believes freedom of movement—and the right to seek a better life—is a fundamental human right. Being undocumented is not a crime; it’s a civil violation, no different than a parking ticket. The U.S. hasn’t passed meaningful immigration reform since before Oliver was born. It’s time for change.
Abolish & Prosecute ICE
Immigration and Customs Enforcement, established in 2003 under the Homeland Security Act, has grown into an authoritarian, unaccountable secret police force with a $170 billion budget that exceeds the militaries of all but 15 nations. In 2026, ICE agents have killed U.S. citizens Alex Pretti, Renée Good, and Keith Porter Jr., among at least nine individuals following a historic 20-year high in ICE's 2025 death toll.
Oliver believes that ICE must be abolished. In Congress, he will seek to completely defund ICE, subpoena its leadership to appear before House committees, and issue criminal referrals to the Department of Justice for ICE and other federal immigration agents violating our constitutional rights.
Florida's 287(g) agreements with ICE have local, state, and even university campus law enforcement conducting their immigrant detention operations across South Florida. Oliver will work to repeal Section 287(g) of the Immigration and Nationality Act that deputizes law enforcement agencies to carry out federal immigration enforcement.
Oliver believes that as a civil matter, federal immigration enforcement should not be militarized, and that immigration enforcement capacity should be administrative, not with more masked, armed men. With $170 billion in taxpayer money saved from abolishing ICE, we can invest in a just immigration system and much more.
Pathways to Citizenship
Oliver will fight for a humane and inclusive immigration system that honors families and protects communities. He supports:
A clear pathway to citizenship for Dreamers and those with DACA
Expanding and protecting Temporary Protected Status (TPS)
Legal status for parents previously covered under DAPA
Ending far-right attempts to criminalize immigration and restrict legal pathways
Trump’s immigration agenda—from unconstitutional travel bans to the revocation of TPS for Venezuelans, Haitians, and others—has been rooted in racism, not law. Oliver will fight for your rights and your family’s, because the Constitution applies to us all.
Due Process & Accountability
Oliver will use Congress’s oversight power to restore due process, end unlawful detentions, and hold federal immigration agencies accountable. This includes investigating deaths in ICE custody like the death of Marie Ange Blaise, which occurred in the GEO Group’s privately run detention center, Pompano Beach's Broward Transitional Center here in District 23.
Foreign Policy & Root Causes
Oliver believes we must address the root causes of migration. That means ending punitive sanctions and trade restrictions that have devastated economies in Venezuela, Haiti, and Cuba. After 60 years of a failed embargo, it’s time to normalize relations with Cuba and pursue a foreign policy grounded in stability and diplomacy—not displacement.
Oliver opposes the United States' unlawful violation of Venezuelan sovereignty and will not support the expropriation of another country's natural resources to be exploited by corporate fossil fuel or any other private interests.
